For Parts
For Parts is a collaborative experimental typeface I developed with Joy Zou. I built the top halves of each letterform, while Joy made the bottom halves, each of us embracing abstraction and weightiness in the shapes we drew.
Thin lines fill the gaps between our sections, creating contrast and aiding in legibility.
My specimen for the typeface takes the form of a risograph-printed fold-out, with eight panels that can be viewed in sequence or side by side. I leaned into the hodge-podge fusion of our design, borrowing language from classified ads to showcase the typeface.
