Strikethrough
Strikethrough is a limited-edition publication that traces the evolution of geometric sans serif type over time.
Starting with Herbert Bayer’s Proposal for a Universal Typeface, the magazine explores multiple facets of geometric sans type, from Paul Renner’s enduring Futura to the retrofuturistic Eurostile and distinctly 1970s Blippo. I researched and wrote the passages that appear throughout the magazine.
The design takes advantage of the contrasts that emerge through the overlaying of risograph inks, allowing me to play with scale and color while a consistent system keeps key information legible.
Each spread features its own accent color to complement the blue of the underlying text, and the cover uses pink and yellow inks to create an abstract composite of Os from each of the typefaces discussed.
